Government · Private Cloud Platform
Challenge
Build a greenfield VMware-based private cloud platform with multi-tenant Kubernetes clusters requiring strict security isolation.
Approach
As part of the platform team, designed Kubernetes clusters from scratch. Configured development tools including GitLab. Implemented GitOps with Argo CD. Built observability stack with Grafana, Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, Loki, and Alertmanager.
Result
Secure, observable platform with proper tenant isolation. Development teams can deploy independently while maintaining security compliance.
One of Europe's busiest airports needed to modernize its microservices architecture while optimizing Azure infrastructure and planning migration from Kubernetes to OpenShift.
Approach
As part of the development team, improved PHP microservices for the flight information API (powering the mobile app), parking systems, and push notifications. Managed multiple Elasticsearch clusters including database design and search performance optimization. Integrated Symfony applications with headless CMS. Implemented Infrastructure-as-Code with Terraform. Optimized Kubernetes clusters and developed migration plan to OpenShift.
Result
Improved API response times and search performance. Reliable flight and parking services handling peak travel periods. Elasticsearch clusters optimized for faster queries across multiple departments.
Platform serving millions of Dutch citizens relied heavily on manual testing, limiting release frequency and increasing regression risk.
Approach
As lead developer, improved and expanded the unit and integration test suite. Implemented Behat (Gherkin) framework enabling functional architects to define application behavior without technical knowledge. Developed integrations with government APIs across the Netherlands. Worked on making the MijnOverheid application cloud-native compatible. Translated functional designs into technical specifications and helped management prioritize the backlog.
Result
Transformed release cycle from manual testing to automated quality gates. Significantly reduced regression bugs caught before production. Platform prepared for cloud-native deployment. Improved collaboration between business and development through clear technical specifications.
Scale a Mastodon instance under viral growth to serve 35,000+ users reliably.
Approach
Designed hybrid Kubernetes architecture: control plane on VMs, worker nodes on bare metal. Deployed Talos Linux for secure, immutable OS. Full GitOps with public Argo CD repository. VictoriaMetrics for observability.
Result
Platform serving 35,000+ users globally. Infrastructure fully documented and publicly available as reference implementation.
